We made our lodging at Unity Park Motel in the town centre - so much space, water, power and hot showers! So much luxury we didn't know what to do!! We met up with Katie Thomson of Reef Check Vanuatu and talked about what we had done so far and our plans for the coming weeks.

We had a meeting with the guys at Aquamarine dive centre in Luganville about our options for getting surveys done in the area. They were really friendly and helpful. We organized to do a survey with their Reef Check team on their permanent monitoring site on the reef alongside the wreck of the President Coolidge. It wasn't all business though - we did 3 dives on this incredible wreck (a cruise ship converted to troop carrier which hit a mine and sunk in the war) and pretended we were rich tourists for a while. We did a night dive into the cargo holds which was spectacular, thousands of swarming flashlight fish, an electric clam and heaps of lionfish (which were attracted to our torches). The survey next to the Coolidge was a great success. There is a really awesome Reef Check team at Aquamarine who are well supported by their managers to carry out the continued monitoring.
