About: An Irish ships captain and Welsh/Chinese accountant, after quiting our jobs we have decided to embark on our adventure aboard our 38ft steel yacht before Liz reaches 30.
Extra:
We acquired Odyssey in October 2014 in the UK. She has been sitting at Haslar marina all winter where we have been preparing for our 18 month voyage. Anchorages of the Virgin Islands

We have had a jolly ol' time in the British and US Virgin Islands and here are some, but not all, of our favourite anchorages there. Easy sailing with the next island barely an hour away. Watch out for the inexperienced charter boat, of which there are plenty in the BVIs. Turtles in every bay, swimming [...]

Jack's story

“Did a car just pull up?” I looked around. The roads were empty, just a couple of bars, their light spilling out onto the beach, illuminating small waves, lapping lacklustre on the white sand. No cars. “We’re right next to the customs office”. I looked around. How many ferry terminals could [...]

Windward Caribbean islands

Woken by a rooster crowing, the sounds of waves lapping on a beach and the intermittent whirring of the wind turbine. We've been cruising the Caribbean for a month now and still quite a few islands to visit.

The departure

25 June 2015 | Portsmouth Harbour
About a year ago we set ourselves the target that we would set off on our voyage by 1st June 2015. Since then we have:
- Bought a boat
- Liz has finished off all of her sailing/first aid courses
- Given up our jobs. Liz in London and Liam in the North Sea
- Moved out of our homes, London and Tipperary and moved onto the boat
- Joined the Cruising Association, where we have already met a whole host of people including Jane and Andy, seasoned sailors currently living in Gosport, where we have shared many a drink and a laugh with them
- Kitted out the boat with far too much gear, most of which we hope never to use

Thanks Jane and Andy for all the helpful hints, advice, dried protein and getting our lines for us on departure.

Thanks for coming to visit Peter, Vivian, Marg, Yeung, Fay, Jack, Dave, Claire, and for all your help and advice John and James. Thanks for the free labour Alaister and Steve in the preparation.

Thanks for the wine and good wishes Pippa and Tobin. All best and fair winds on Herb of Grace.

A couple days later than scheduled (due to waiting for the better weather) Wednesday 3rd June, we departed Halsar, where we had been for the winter months and made our way west. 18 miles later we took up our first mooring at Yarmouth.

Follow our progress on Marine Traffic, Odyssey, call sign 2HZW2.

Liz
