Vessel Name: Odyssey
Vessel Make/Model: Dudley Dix 38

About: An Irish ships captain and Welsh/Chinese accountant, after quiting our jobs we have decided to embark on our adventure aboard our 38ft steel yacht before Liz reaches 30.
Extra:
We acquired Odyssey in October 2014 in the UK. She has been sitting at Haslar marina all winter where we have been preparing for our 18 month voyage. Our plan is to join the ARC+ rally departing the Canaries in November, heading to St. Lucia via Cape Verdes. From there we plan on spending a few [...]

Anchorages of the Virgin Islands

We have had a jolly ol' time in the British and US Virgin Islands and here are some, but not all, of our favourite anchorages there. Easy sailing with the next island barely an hour away. Watch out for the inexperienced charter boat, of which there are plenty in the BVIs. Turtles in every bay, swimming [...]

Jack's story

“Did a car just pull up?” I looked around. The roads were empty, just a couple of bars, their light spilling out onto the beach, illuminating small waves, lapping lacklustre on the white sand. No cars. “We’re right next to the customs office”. I looked around. How many ferry terminals could [...]

Windward Caribbean islands

Woken by a rooster crowing, the sounds of waves lapping on a beach and the intermittent whirring of the wind turbine. We've been cruising the Caribbean for a month now and still quite a few islands to visit.

Brittany

Grand
Dep Douranenez.
Monday dawns overcast and grim. Actually I have no idea how it dawns as we sleep in, but it's rain when
I get up. Liz up a bit earlier to post the latest eBay sale. Cash money!!!
Another weather study and it looks good for departure this evening when the rain stops and the weak warm front passes over.
Few jobs in prep for leaving, water, diesel, securing the deck, lunch and a beer!! Then it's afternoon captains nap time. I chance a walk on the coast as the rain eases and promptly get soaked. Anyway, on the walk back I notice how similar house names and boat names are to those in Ireland, Breton I suppose. (Oh feck, I forgot to buy a Breton cap in the trashy souvenir shop)! Too late. Are there Galician caps?
Nearly ready to go, rain has stopped so I head for the showers. Who do you think is there, that young couple again, where do they get the energy haha!!
A fine motor out of Douranenez Bay and report our plans to the Coast Guard. Stars out, sea calm, tide behind us and the Point du Raz signal staton tower keeping a reassuring eye on us, for a while anyway. Brittany is great and I would have stayed all summer to explore. Though a smaller boat would be better and maybe a sailing dinghy. Let's see how the Ria's of NW Spain compare. Biscay here we come!!
