Anchorages of the Virgin Islands

We have had a jolly ol' time in the British and US Virgin Islands and here are some, but not all, of our favourite anchorages there. Easy sailing with the next island barely an hour away. Watch out for the inexperienced charter boat, of which there are plenty in the BVIs. Turtles in every bay, swimming [...]

Jack's story

“Did a car just pull up?” I looked around. The roads were empty, just a couple of bars, their light spilling out onto the beach, illuminating small waves, lapping lacklustre on the white sand. No cars. “We’re right next to the customs office”. I looked around. How many ferry terminals could [...]

Gibraltar to Canaries
Early start. Blue lights on the runway. I love the colour of it all. Motoring. Ships everywhere. The Rock fades in the morning twilight.
Slack tide. Contra currents. Good progress.
Sails up, sun out, Dolphins say goodbye. Set watches.
Midnight motoring. Counting fuel. Sailing, motoring, sailing, motoring.
Flying fish, whales in the distance, fishing boats and tankers.
Sea showers, fresh rinse. Lovely!!
Two great cooks, one great tea maker! Happy ship!
Venus rises through Moroccan dust. Milky Way points.............the way!
Snoozing, motoring and sailing. Fiddlers green? Sun downer. Yes!
Clean the toilet, check the bilges, open the hatches. Make the tea. Read the book. Trim the sail. Eat the noodles. Make the tea. Trim the sail. Read the book. Found the movies..........!!
Flashing lights? phosphorescence !
Odyssey makes luminous green ripples in the mirror sea as we pass under a diamond studded night sky. Billions of diamonds!
Nearly there, crescent moon to steer on. Canarian Anticipation! A fish!!!!! Anchor, cold beer, chillax, we made it!!
