On our first morning in La Paz, we tuned in the daily cruiser's net on VHF channel 22 at 0800. We listened as Gunther ran down the weather forecast for the area, welcomed new arrivals, and asked if anyone had items to swap or sell. It took about an hour and was very entertaining. After that was the morning coffee get together at 0930 at the Los Cruceros club house. A daily chance to meet people and hear the latest gossip.
Later that morning John and I went snorkeling with whale sharks. They are hanging around in Bahia La Paz, which is a huge bay. We swam along side of 4 whale sharks, ranging in size from about 15-25'. What an incredible experience. The water was a bit murky so you had to stay within 3 feet or so of the shark to see it clearly. I will try to post some pictures, but they aren't very good because of the poor visibility. After diving we ate at our new favorite restaurant, Rancho Viejo (same place as last night), where the food was once again amazing.
We kind of took it easy the rest day. A boat came in two slips away that is the same make and model as mine (CSY 44). These boats are relatively rare on the west coast, since they were made in Florida, so we walked over and made friends. I will end up stealing some of their ideas for Odyssey. We cooked the last of the dorado that Kyle caught, which was delicious, and called it a night.
