The morning broke clear and calm, so John and I loaded up the dinghy to do some snorkeling near Punta San Evaristo to the north. The dinghy motor had other ideas, and refused to start. After much tinkering, swearing, and head scratching, we got it to start. So after a hot lap to insure that it would indeed run, we anchored near the point and geared up. We lots of different types and sizes of fish, and the water was just under 70 degrees. John dove down and filmed a sea turtle, while I spotted evidence of lobsters in the area. We dinghied back to Odyssey and made ready to head out to places south of us.
Naturally, the wind was directly on our nose, so sailing was not an option. We finally put up the mainsail and gained a half a knot. As we drew nearer to Isla Pardita, we could see whitecaps catching us from the North. The approaching wind also was bringing dark clouds with it. We made it into Caleda Pardita and anchored just as a rain began to fall, and a large sea turtle monitored our anchoring technique. We had rain for close to two hours, but it stopped as darkness fell. The wind fell to nothing and we ended up having a beautiful, peaceful night at anchor. I was awakened during the night by the sounds of fish splashing near Odyssey. It sounded like people having a splash fight! So beautiful, and nice to have a smooth night again.
