Another New Anchorage

Bill, warm

4/21/14
The previous night got a bit rolley for some reason, but the morning broke sunny and calm. The bees were already checking Odyssey out, so I weighed anchor and headed north. Enough with the bees already! I decided to do a drive through of a place called Ensenada Del Candelero, a place I've never been, on my way to another cove. When I got in there, it was so beautiful that I dropped anchor, figuring that I could swim and cool off for a while, as the morning was very warm and still.
I SUPed around the cove and really liked what I saw. There is a tall spire of rock (hence the name Candelero) that divides the cove at the entrance, which is good for snorkeling. In fact, I ended up snorkeling the whole way around it. The cove itself is very pretty with water of varying degrees of turquoise and emerald. And best of all, NO BEES! There are small flys called BoBos, but they land but don't bite, so they are tolerable.
I snorkeled around the boat trying to clean the top 3 feet of the of the hull that is under water. While I did get some of the growth off, towards the end I began getting bitten by the very critters that I was scrubbing off! When I got out of the water I had these things about the size of large fleas all over me, even in my beard. Yuck!!
I was in and out of the water all day today. I took a shower on the foredeck with a Hudson sprayer that I rigged up from Home Depot to be a solar shower. I have 2 perfectly good indoor showers, but this seemed better on a hot day. It was awesome except for running out of water with soap all over me. Doh! I had to run inside and finish the rinse in a real shower. Oh well, still awesome.
After rendering aid to folks on a nearby boat, I ended up eating late, about 8:00. No biggy, but I used the opportunity to sit on the foredeck to escape my solar garden lights (another story), and I was just mesmerized by the conditions and the night sky. I was comfortably sitting in trunks, gazing skyward, and just digging why I am down here. Millions of stars in an otherwise black sky, with hints of other stars behind the ones that I could see, pointing to limitless stars and galaxies. I can't imagine how I could possibly be more fortunate in life than I already am. I have such great family, friends, and loved ones, and everyone is healthy and thriving. I want so much to share this with them. Maybe then they will get my connection to Mexico, La Paz, and the whole sailing thing in general. There is always hope :).
