We weighed anchor at 0630 am in very choppy and windy conditions. With about 45 miles to cover today, I wanted to get an early start. The first part of the trip was spent motoring into 5-6' waves and 15-20 knot winds on our nose. Conditions gradually improved, with the wind lessening and the waves dropping as we approached Isla Pardita. Since Susan and Cody were sleeping since we started, I waited to put the fishing lines in the water until about 0930 am. We caught our first fish, a 20-25# Jack Crevalle, almost immediately. Cody came flying out of bed when he heard the reel screaming. After he caught that fish, he hooked another, and then the other pole started screaming. I took the new pole and landed almost the identical fish to Cody's. After a few more strikes and misses, Cody landed a nice juvenile Dorado of about 30". All fish were released because we were heading back to the Marina, and didn't need the meat.
We stopped at Marina Costa Baja, nicknamed "cost a lotta", and got fuel. We were safely tied up in our slip by about 1500 pm. We quickly went to make reservations to swim with the whale sharks the following day. We took refuge from the heat in the local restaurant, The Dock, where we enjoyed drinks called Micholadas, which are kind of a beer Bloody Mary. Very refreshing! After doing some initial clean up on the the boat, with numerous dips in the water, we cleaned ourselves and headed out for a relaxing dinner. The breeze came up and cooled things down nicely, developing into a Corumuel, with gusts over 20 knots. We all slept wonderfully, with no rolling and rocking.
