We weighed anchor and were underway at 4:45 am, which should have been one hour earlier, but I forgot to reset my watch for Mexico time. Oh well, we motored away from the island under a cloak of bright stars on a ink-black sea. We had to keep watch for floats from fishermen's nets, but we made it out without any problems. I saw my first bird on a turtle when there was barely enough light to see by. I don't know if that was the proverbial "early bird", or if they had passed the night together. The sunrise was spectacular! Our reward for being up so early. We have over 90 miles to cover today in order to make it to Mazatlan before dark.
We made great time, motoring and sailing, arriving just about sunset after 14 hours. We say a small group of spotted dolphins who played with us, but not like yesterday's bunch. We saw a Humpback whale for a moment closeby, but it went deep and we didn't see it again. Today we got some wind for the majority of the trip, the opposite of yesterday.
After tying up at Marina Mazatlan, we all cleaned up and went out for a nice meal. As we were finishing our meal the cook came out and gave us a plate of seared ahi sashimi. Wow, So good! We all shared a late night aperitif in the cockpit and called it a night, being tired from rising early and being underway for a full day.
