DAY 63 - Leixoes (Porto)
16 August 2015

Motor sailed most of way but managed over 7 knots for last 3 miles - whoo hoo. Marina a bit grim so we decided to anchor outside... Big mistake ! Loads of space to choose a spot and our anchor managed to get stuck on a huge lump of chain, metal and rope on the sea bed. The electric windlass wasn't strong enough to bring t it up so poor Ricky had to put his wetsuit on and go and try to free it himself. After a few choice words, which I'll leave to your imagination and lots of grunts he finally freed the anchor. Unfortunately the electric windlass said " ah, no way " so he had to winch it by hand. Fortunately I hadn't burnt out motor ,as we thought at first, only tripped the fuse - whew!
After that the grim marina seemed Ok so that is where I am sat at the moment using the ports free wifi so it's not all bad. It's weird being moored spitting distance from huge tankers ,container ships, cargo and cranes, after the delightful rural marinas we have been spoiled with. Still they can't all be picturesque and this is a working port.
Probably head south again tomorrow. There is no wind here to burn off the drizzly damp mist and let the sun out , so we haven't braved the beach although the waves look awesome.
We've met the crew of Delphinis (John and Jane's friends) and going to pop over later to compare weather reports and drink the martini I bought at the supermarket because I felt sorry for the girl who was giving away free samples and no one was buying!I'm sure it will be lovely, well worth my 6 euros.
On that note -I'll love and leave you for now.
