Happy New Year 2022

01 January 2022
Donna Smith
We hope you all had a good New Year, however you spent it. As we say goodbye to 2021 we send our love to those who lost precious people in their lives, or were forced to spend time apart from their families and friends. Hopefully the end of the year provided a time of reflection for us all, a celebration and thanks for the good times and sense of optimism for what 2022 has in store! Gosh that sounded a bit 'Queens Christmas speechy.' When I read it back to myself I found myself doing a 'Buck Palace' accent!! Sorry about that, but please believe, albeit rather clumsily written the sentiment is at true as eggs is eggs x

Our New Years Eve was spent with new friends made at the marina this year. The crew of Dragon invited us to the local Sailing Club on the beach. We started the evening eating wonderful international food prepared by everyone and drinking glasses of Prosecco. At the stroke of midnight we watched the wall of fireworks along the seafront which was spectacular! Barbara and Wolfgang from Catamaran Pink Penguin, danced a few steps of the Viennese waltz on the sand ( their tradition in Austria) It was so sweet, that I thought rallying the group to link arms and holler out Auld Lang Syne would have spoilt the ambience somewhat - so instead We just had a little kiss and smooch too x

Roger, (who for some reason I kept calling 'Howard') from Switzerland said that he was going for a New Years Day Swim. Well there was a challenge!! Despite the weather being really warm , the sea was actually quite cold and I'm ashamed to say that I have only paddled since we've been here. So at lunchtime the following day we all trooped down to the sea shore. It was absolutely glorious! The sun was hot , the sea was calm so 4 of us (out of 8) took the plunge. Both of us Brits, One of the two Austrians, (Barbara) and of course Howard, (I mean Roger ) the Swiss. Neither of the French Crew - ( although Nellie paddled ) the Lovely Katie (married to Roger) supported from the shore .
Not that I am competitive or anything!
NB I may have been the last in the sea, but once in , I stayed in the longest - it was exhilarating!

We're looking forward to a Happy, Healthy 2022 and will hopefully get to see many of you in good old Blightie soon.

HAPPY NEW YEAR from Us and the gorgeous Marina cat who seems to have made herself very comfy lately.
