Another Nice Bay

20180716 Pulau Mubur Ne Lat 03 Deg 20.870'N Lon 106 deg 13.580'E We had a an ice time around at Pulau Semut, we explored every nook and cranny of the area in the dinghy, found a track to a nice bay on the opposite side, had a couple of swims etc, it was a nice time and great anchorage. Brian and Lyn from Aerial were there, it was good to catch up with them after a couple of years. We had heard they had a new boat, but had not run in to them, Awesome boat, we went over a couple of times, and had a good look around. We motored around here this morning, taking our time in order to charge the batteries, I need more solar panels, its a constant fight at the moment, running the engine every day, but they are all charged up now. This is a lovely looking bay, we are anchored a bit out and it is quite deep, we dropped in 23 meters with 1.9 meters of tide at Selat Peninting. It felt like sand, but I cant be sure. The anchor set well. The wind is whistelling through the anchorage at the moment, but its quite sunny, we will go in for a look this afternoon, and hope to go on a bit of a hike tomorrow. So will be here for a couple of days. So alls good here, apart from the batteries being a bit of a pain, I think they are OK we are just using a bit more power these days, and it hasn't been too sunny, so the solar panels aren't doing too much, the wind generator is earning its keep today though.

Weather looks better

20180714 Pulat Semut N Lat 03 Deg 23.162'N Lon 106 Deg 17.472'E We arrived here yesterday but I forgot to update the blog. We had a nice time at Pulau Penjalin, but it was a very roly anchorage, we had a good look around in the morning, exploring both of the beaches. Then we had a nice sail around here in about 18 knots, reaching at first, then close hauled into the anchorage. We dropped the pick in 17.1 meters, with 1.6 meters of tide at Selat Peninting, the anchor pulled up OK. We are a bit further out than Nevilles waypoint, as there were fishing boats in there when we arrived. We had a bit of a look around last night, and will spend the day here, its a vert pretty spot. Everything else is fine, not much to report, it looks like a fine day for a change, so we might do some snorkeling.

Still Cloudy

20180712 Pulau Penjalin, Lat 03 Deg 23.585 Lon 106 Deg 26.888'E We has a couple of days at Pulau Selai, on the first day we explored all over in the dinghy, and went ashore in a couple of places, we stayed yesterday due to unsettled weather and had a pretty boring old day on the boat. We met a nice fisherman, who we invited on board for a chat, he spoke no English and us no Indonesian, but with the help of a book we managed to have a quite a chat. Some other fishermen sold us a Pink Snapper, and we had it for dinner both nights, it was great. We went into to Pulau Mandariuau Bay this morning, but another boat was in there, we had a chat on the radio, we could have anchored, but I thought it was a bit tight, and as it was only lunch time and with a nice breeze blowing we decided to sail over here. This is beautiful, but there is a swell getting in on the beam, so we are rolling a bit, but there is 2 beaches and plenty to explore so we will put up with it. We anchored in 15.2 meters, with 1.1 meters of tide at Selat Peninting, the anchor took a little while to set, but set well when it did. So alls good and looking forward to getting off the boat tomorrow, the weather is still very overcast, which is a shame, but not much we can do about it.

Raining

20180709 Pulau Selai lat 03 deg 12.257'N Lon 106 Deg 29.323'E We had a quick run around here to Pulau Selai this morning, it was quite windy at Pulau Pengedung last night and this morning. I think the wind was funnelling down the channel between the islands, so bieng as the weather is a bit unsettled we thought we would move on and try this out. Its a really nice spot and well protected, but the anchorage is quite deep, we anchored in 17.1 meters with a 1.2 meter tide at Selat Peninting, the anchor seemed to pull in OK, we have a 5:1 scope at the moment. There looks to be a tiny little beach where we may be able to get ashore, but it has been raining since we got here so maybe later today, or in the morning. The weather is a bit unsettled, so we may stick around for a day or to, we will see, there are a couple of anchorages near by we want to try, but they would be better in fine weather. So apart from that alls well, just a bit bored stuck on the boat in the rain.

"Jan of the Jungle"

20180708 Pulau Pengedung Lat 03 Deg 09.426"n Lon 106 Deg 23.925'E We had a nice time around at Temburun Waterfall, we went ashore and met a few people at the local shop, bought a couple of drinks etc. Then made we our way to the waterfall, it was very nice and not too hot so we decided to climb to the top. Well it turned into quite a climb, over rocks, trees, and scrambling our way through the jungle and clay, sometimes on all fours, Jan did well as it got a bit steep at places, I think we can call her "Jan of the Jungle" after that one. Anyhow after all of the climbing we popped out on a road right beside the top of the waterfall, it would have been a lot easier by road. Anyhow it was worth the trouble it was a great spot, we went for a dip and soaked in the view for an hour or Two. We left this morning for an easy trip around here, we could have sailed as there is plenty of breeze but we needed to run the water maker, and charge the batteries, so we motored. We found our way in using Google Earth and with Jan on the Bow,it was a bit hard as it was overcast, but we managed. We are anchored a bit close to the reef than would be ideal, a bit further to the SW would have been better. Nevilles spot is the go, we must have drifted a bit setting the Anchor, but it bit in well and we feel OK, we anchored in 13 Meters with a 1.2 meter tide at Selat Peninting. Not sure how long we will stay here, there is a beach not too far away, but its not much of a day for a dinghy ride, so if its nice tomorrow we may stick around. So all good here, doing it pretty tough as usual.

Anchored in front of a waterfall

20180706 Temberun Waterfall Lat 03 Deg 10.684'N Lon 106 deg 16.787E We left Tarempa about mid day after finally getting a Sim Card, its a bit hard for foreigners to register them, but we found the right place its a yellow and green shop with glass doors on the end of the water taxi jetty, it has a small sign saying yacht management, the man to see is Jay. We had a pleasant trip around here, it was pretty overcast and windy, but we could make out the reefs OK, we went a bit further into the anchorage than we should have and it got a bit shallow, but Jan was on the Bow and picked it up in time. We dropped the anchor in13.5 meters with 1.4 meters of tide at Selat Peninting, the anchor pulled up well, we followed Neville from Alba's track in. This looks like a nice place, its nice and piecefull compared to Tarempa, and there is a nice view of the waterfall from the anchorage. We will go ashore in the morning for a look around. So all good, and looking forward to some exploring in the morning.
