20180908 Pangkor Marina Lat 04 Deg 12.670'N Lon 100 Deg 36.110E We arrived at Pangkor yesterday after a pretty long day Motoring, there was a fair bit of rain, thunder and Lightning, apart from that not much else to say. This will probably be the last post for a while, we are going on the hard, and after some maintenance on Zoa, we will be heading home to see the Family. Its been a good year, Lots of sailing for a change, went to some great places, made some new friends, a lot of fun. Zoa was great, she looked after us as usual, and was as reliable as ever, we did a lot of miles sailing mostly to windward, not too much Motoring for a change, which was great. Might have another go at the Indian Ocean next year, we will see.
20180906 Kg Sg Che Lias Lat 03 Deg 36.995'N Lon 100 Deg 55.962'E Today was a pretty ordinary day really, I woke to what I thought was a bit of cloud breaking up, but it was actually building, it rained all morning, no strong winds, but some thunder and lightnening. The rain stopped at about 13:00 and left an overcast day, and sloppy sea with a bit of wind from time to time, we pretty much motor Sailed all afternoon. But can't complain the anchorage last night was great, we both had a good sleep. This however is only so so, there is a little swell coming from the NW causing us to roll a bit, hopefully it will go away, its not too bad and will do for a night and quick get away in the morning, we are miles out to sea, but well lit up. We anchored in 10.9 meters, with 0.7 meters of tide at Bagan Datoh, the holding was good, you could easily push in much further, but it was almost dark when we anchored, and I could see some sort of structures further in, so didn't want to go any further in the dark. So alls well, and hopefully we wake up to a nice morning, it has been raining or threatening to rain at sunrise for days now, the forecast from the Malaysian met office says it should be fine, we will see.
20180905 Selat Che Mat Zin Lat 02 Deg 55.381'N Lon 101 Deg 15.740'E After a nice stop at Admiral Marina, we got under way at first light and managed to make it here before dark. It was a boring old day motor sailing, we were pushing against current for a while but managed to maintain a reasonable speed, another 5 knots of wind would have been nice, there was just not quite enough. This seems like a good spot, we have been in this neck of the woods before, but never anchored here, a few mozzies at sunset but they seem to have gone now (I hope). We dropped in 7.1 meters, with 2.3 meters of tide at Pintu Gedong, the holding seems good. Not much else to say, we will push on in the morning, hopefully we get a little more wind.
20180904 Admiral Marina Lat 02 Deg 28.760'N Lon 101 Deg 50.680'E This is a late post as I forgot to do it yesterday. We decided to go into Admiral Marina, for some fuel and a bit of a break, as the night before was stormy and we didn't get much sleep. We had a easy motor sail there. We are glad we stopped we topped off the tanks, bought some Meat and Vegies, had a nice dip in the pool, and went out for dinner with our friends Barbara, and Peter from Tiger Balm, all in all a nice time.
20180903 Bukit Tungal Lat 02 Deg 20.893'N Lon 102 Deg 00.519'E We decided to stay at the water islands for a day, it was a lousy day weather wise, but I enjoyed it, it was Father's day, and we had good internet, so we had a chat to the Kids and Grand Kids. Today started much the same as far as the weather goes, it started with a bit of a squall and rain at 04:00 or so, and was on and off all morning until breaking up at about 09:30. So we got under way, but the current was against us, on the bright side we had a bit of wind so sailed all day, just very slow, not sure we saw 5 knots even after the tide turned. But it was a nice day sailing past Melaka, its a big town, we found a good radio station and enjoyed the sail. But going slow meant not making the Marina, so we are anchored here, its quite nice, just a long way out, but I tend to do that a lot. We anchored in 12 meters with 1.3 meters at Tanjuing Keling, the anchor set well. Not much else to say, hopefully the weather is better in the morning, we will keep moving up the straight.
20180901 P. Besar (Water Islands) Lat 02 Deg 06.434'N Lon 102 Deg 20.607'E Well we made it up here to the Water Islands OK, but it was a long hot motoring all day saga, we had the sails up and down a couple of times, but they weren't doing much. It's the first day like that I can remember in quite a while so I cant really complain, it was broken up a bit at lunch time, by a tropical thunderstorm, I thought it was all set to clobber us, but we managed to avoid it and only got a few drops of rain. It's just beautiful here now, there was a nice sunset, we have good internet, even a radio station playing our kind of music, so all good, and hoping there is nothing brewing over at Sumatra to disturb the piece. We will probably go into Port Dixon Marina tomorrow, we weren't going to worry but the I might top up with Diesel, I have enough but not much of a safety margin. We anchored in 4.6 meters, with 0.8 of a meter at Pulau Undan, the anchor set well.
