20180816 Bansa Island Lat 00DegBansa Island 28.036'N Lon 104 Deg 23.033'E We had a nice day today, just a bit long. There was a nice breeze and we left at 1st light, I thought we might have had the current with us for the first couple of hours, but that was not the case, we motored into it for an hour or so to charge the batteries, then we started sailing. The breeze was from dead ahead at about 13 knots, so we had full sail up and were powered up nicely, it was a bit of work as we were in a channel, and every time we got half way across there was a Tug towing a barge in the way, and we would have to tack back early, we must have tacked a dozen times, but once clear of the channel, we were laying the islands and had a great run for 10 or 15 miles. Once here we motored through the islands, checking the charts against google Earth and visually, everything was pretty much on the money. The place we had wanted to anchor at turned out to be a dud, it was a nice spot in a channel up against the Mangroves, but when we anchored the wind blew us too far out into the channel, and we had just seen quite a big local cargo boat go through, so we decided to move. Our second option was quite exposed today, so after some wandering around we decided on this spot just on sunset, a bit late but it seems ok. The chart says the bottom is sand and stone, which probably right as the anchor took a bit to set, it held in the end, but I guess the holding here may not be the best. We anchored in 16.5 meters with 1 meter of tide at Pelabuhan Kigang. So all good, we might scout around here tomorrow if we have good light and see if we can find a nice anchorage.
