Spinalongas Lagoon
10 September 2018 | Spinalongia Fort
Travelled to spinalonga lagoon past the fort and old leper colony.
Anchored in spinalongia lagoon, very windy here, got up to 29 knots at one stage, the lagoon is very large. Loads of apartment hotel complexes around, swam and rested a bit as we are still tired from the crossing and racing around in the car.
The next morning we up anchored and travelled toward the fort and leper colony and anchored just off, a few tripper boats here, we took the dinghy across to the fort and pulled the boat on shore, very rocky. It cost 8 euro each for entrance, it is a magnificent fortification and the remains are fairly well intact in places, you can see where the poor leprosy patients would have had to live, the walls are very well fortified and it is an impressive situation high up on the island of rock. We launched the dinghy and motored back to the boat, where we were now surrounded by anchored tripper boats, up anchor and off.
Motored and sailed to the island of Dhia and anchored in the 2nd bay from the east, small but peaceful, 3 yachts were coming out as we went in, anchored in 15 metres on sand. Later in the day we were joined by a Swedish small yacht. In the evening they came over to have drink with us, Ola and Maria, Maria was just visiting for a week, nice evening chatting to them.
