Adventure About to Set Sail Again!

03 August 2011 | Apia Marina, Western Samoa
Sean
Well, after 7 days of hard work we're ready to go. Today, we'll check out and finish up some last remaining tasks. Everyone's ready to go and feeling confident. Special thanks to the crew (Tim and Dad) for their hard work and patience. They've been a huge help. Also, Peg and Fred on Ogopogo for jerry jugs, and lots of needed advice. For those of you wondering what we had to do, here's what we accomplished in preparations for the passage from Samoa to Hawaii:

Fix rubber foot on generator
Fill Propane tanks
Remove windmill motor; get rebuilt; and reinstall
Have dingy cover repaired (inner liner separated)
Troubleshoot voltage regulator (Tim got it working)
Troubleshoot wind indicator (still broken)
Find fridge repairman; troubleshoot fridge (still broken)
Fix communications with Single Sideband Radio
Setup buoyweather for passage forecasts
Tune rigging (Tim and Dad did this)
Fill up water (realize that you didn't dump old water first; dump new water and refill again)
Rebuild Septic system (replaced main outflow hose; and cleaned all other connection points)
Secondary GPS troubleshoot (broken; unable to repair; fortunately, we have a third).
Test Radar, Sonar, autopilot
Attempted to install new Tachometer (need schematic; decided to leave old one in place).
Fix TV (DVD player not wired correctly; sound was gargled; lots of troubleshooting to get to work with dvd; laptop; and portable dvd player)
Installed external speakers (old ones were bad)
Installed new external VHF radio
Replaced forward halyard (old one was broken)
Attached reefing lines to mainsail (probably incorrectly and will need to be adjusted on passage)
Installed Cable/TV box (mostly to replace the hole on the stern that was covered with duct tape.
Test new "I'm okay" EPIRB service
Check engine oil and top off
Check Strainers on engine intake
Check impeller
Pump up and drain dinghy
Check and adjust liferaft setup
Stow and reconfigure lots of stuff (dad completely reorganized closet - much better)
Mount new EPIRB and stowed old one in ditch bag
Reevaluated ditch bag (added GPS; and fishing gear)
Serviced the two primary winches
Mounted barbecue (to get it out of the way)
Tested generator
Had spare alternator repaired so that it would mount correctly on the boat
Installed new battens
Removed dual racor fuel filtration system and cleaned it out; reinstalled
Removed access plates on two main fuel tanks; fuel was old; borrowed jerry jugs from Peg and Fred; emptied all fuel; found someone to take bad fuel; acquired new fuel)
Lots of provisioning (all frozen food has been acquired. Need lots more bread and dry goods).
Installed staysail
Installed Genoa
Got laundry done (too much blood on sheets from mosquito bites).
