Okay, this morning we got the alternator working. We had lighter winds and decided to fly the genoa. When the winds picked up we attempted to furl the genoa and found out that it didn't furl anymore. We just had the roller furling replaced, so this was a bit of a surprise. As Han Solo exclaimed, "They told me they fixed it! It's not my fault!"

We pulled the genoa down and rolled it up in a manner that Ron would be most displeased with. We were unable to determine the cause for the failure. We're mostly blaming it on Dad-CPO. He claims that our ships dialect is most peculiar and that he is unable to understand it. We're back to staysail for now. We think we might be able to make it to City in the Clouds. We're still able to sail at about 4.5 knots.

Here's the details for anyone willing to give us their opinion. Furlex S300 - I don't have a manual on board... that i can find. The drum tube will only turn 3/4 in either direction. There's no overload on the furling line and we completely unfurled the line. The tack shackle spins the drum tube, but it stops after the 3/4 turn. I am unable to spin the drum tube by hand.

I'm hoping NASA control (Kathy) can do call the contractor for some advice. We're guessing that it's a bearing, but we're not sure. It is all happening at the drum though.

Tim made Spaghetti today and we all took showers. The wind had decreased to 12-14 knots and we've been making good progress for most of the day. We're following Ron's advice and continuing north until we're a bit closer to the equator. We're now north of our rhumb line.
