Black Friday is upon us, I hope it doesn't live up to its reputation! We decided not to tempt the fates today and have a really laid back, lazy day of doing very little. We didn't go ashore at all, despite the need to do a grocery shop - that was going to have to wait until tomorrow.
I laid in bed looking at the sky through the hatch for a while, the sky was a beautiful blue and I took a photo to show you the view I get to see on a daily basis. Gerry did an oil change on the genset as it had reached 151 hours and he was itching to do something. With nothing urgent needing to be done for the rest of the day we read books, watched the comings and goings in the harbour and relaxed. We ran the water maker in the afternoon and Gerry thought he detected an odd noise coming from it which needed investigating. The first line of investigation is always the filters and he climbed into the lazaret to access them - it's a tight squeeze at the best of times, not helped by being sweaty and not able to get into a position to make it easy to remove bits. With a whole load of sailor speak and a few barked instructions to me to fetch certain things from the tool locker he managed to get the 2 filters out, the larger filter was dirty and easily replaced, the smaller filter
was disgustingly clogged with slime and had to be washed to clean it and then returned to its housing. The moment of truth came with the restarting of the water maker - no odd noise coming from it now and we were producing water with a satisfactory total dissolved solids reading, so all was good. Now it was just a case of Gerry climbing back out of the lazaret, cleaning himself up in the shower and putting the tools away.
Later in the afternoon Gerry had a text from Kirk who has just spent a couple of days in Jamaica, he was back in town and needed a dinghy ride back out to his boat so Gerry took off to pick him up and I stayed on our boat as it looked like it was about to pour with rain. The rain held off just long enough for Gerry to make it back to our boat when we quickly closed up the boat and retreated to inside the salon with an adult beverage. The whole town seemed really quiet today, there were no cruise liners in dock on this side of the harbor (I think there was at least one on the far side) so there was very little foot traffic and boat movement to keep us entertained. Like just about everyone in the world at present we are watching the unfolding horror of the corona virus, it is having devastating effects everywhere but having said that I have to wonder at the stupidity of the general public - get a grip people, you don't need to stock up on a years' supply of toilet paper, follow some general hygiene rules and stay at home away from the general public if you feel ill at all! Like everyone we hope that the pandemic is over quickly and as few people as possible die from its effects.
