Final day at Cool Running Apartments and yard

Weather; sunny, wind n/a, waves n/a

We've arrived at Sunday, our last full day in both the marina yard and the apartment.
As always Gerry set off for the yard early as he was keen to get stuff done before lunchtime. The remaining job was to move as many of the boat supports along the side as possible and paint underneath them, I offered ( very weakly I admit) to help him as moving the supports is a 2 sided job but I was quite relieved when he said no, he would do it himself. I stayed in the apartment and did the usual housework things then fossicked around in the family tree until Gerry reappeared.
The report from the boat was that he had now completed the painting underneath the support pads and had done a bit of touch up in places that needed it, all that was left now was the bottom of the keel which can't be done until the boat is back in the slings ready to be splashed as it rests on a chunk of wood on the ground whilst out of the water. Having completed the painting (and changing his name to Van Gough or maybe Angelo) it was time to clear away some of the painting gear and at the same time to install a new Grenadian curtesy flag, we had been saying for about 3 weeks that our one was looking worse for wear but it was now at the point of being downright dead and disgusting. As the flag was the same one we used in 2017 we felt we really couldn't complain at having to purchase a new one, they really aren't that expensive and are available everywhere here. So the ceremonial lowering of the flag (well the raggy bits that were left of it) took place and a nice new one took its place. I have to admit it didn't look quite so bad from afar but when it came down we had to admit it was well past its use by date - see the photo - that was a flag!
Anyway having finished with the boat for the day Gerry came back to the apartment and announced that he wanted to go to the brewery for a beer and lunch then perhaps we could pick up a few bits of shopping as we were out of bread and running low on butter and eggs. After a quick shower and change of clothes we headed out, hitting the brewery at its busiest time of the week - they have a small farmers market there on a Sunday but it was just about over by the time we arrived however I was in time to buy some eggs from them. There were a few people we knew from the marina and from St Thomas anchorage so we spent some time catching up on all the happenings of the sailing community that we missed out on including learning that it was Gina's (from Rum Truffle) birthday - I think they were settling in for the rest of the day at the brewery! We had a couple of drinks and fish and chips for lunch before saying our goodbyes and heading off to the grocery store. Sunday afternoon is not the day to go shopping - the place was heaving with check out lines long and the cashiers extremely slow. We didn't need a great deal of stuff as we would have to try and get it on the boat before leaving the Marina yard, it was a case of essentials only plus some chocolate which Gerry insists is an essential anyway!
Back at the apartment it was time to put his feet up whilst I collected all of our laundry and did a load of washing whilst we had use of a machine and drier.
A very light dinner followed by some TV and then off to a proper bed for the last time - tomorrow we will be back on our boat, out at anchor provided that nothing untoward happens.
Meanwhile Dale and Lorie had left Port Louis marina and made their way around the bay to anchor in Prickly Bay for the night, they are going to be hauling out of the water tomorrow at 8am so we will see them then.
