MANY HAPPY RETURNS TO PAUL, HOPE IT'S A GOOD ONE

Sunday at last, when all good things happen. We had a late start after a rocky night - the breeze had changed direction and was rolling us from side to side just enough to be annoying and keep us bumping into stuff. After the usual chores were finished we got ready to go ashore as Gerry had arranged for a taxi to take us to the brewery at 11.30. We met up with Dale and Lorie and the four of us chatted all the way to the brewery where we going to spend a good part of the day. Surprisingly the place was quite full for so early in the day but then we realized that the England V France rugby was being shown on the cinema size screen and the majority of the patrons were there to see the game. England won the very tight game in sudden death with a penalty which pleased pretty much everyone in the place - I don't recall seeing anyone supporting France. As the match finished there was a mass exodus from the place, we guess that most people had been there for the entire match and had already drunk their fill. I bought a few vegetables from the farmers market lady whilst Lorie browsed and purchased some pretty sea glass bits to give as gifts when they arrive back home to the States. Anyway we had a few drinks and ordered our lunch then waited on to watch the second Grande Prix from Bahrain, the one where Russell was given the chance to show his worth driving in F1 for the first time ever in place of Hamilton who has Covid. For most of the race Russell was in the top two but where it mattered (in the final few laps) he had a tyre issue which saw him drop way back in the pack, he fought hard to regain a podium finish but there weren't enough laps left for him to make it all up and he finished 9th overall which was a terrific effort on his part - he's a driver to watch for the future. The race finished just before 3pm - we had been at the brewery for much longer than normal and it was time to head back home first in the taxi and then in our dinghy. It was now late afternoon and we didn't feel like doing anything worth telling you about so we read and answered our emails until the clock ticked around to 5 o'clock and we could justify having a last drink for the day. As we had eaten lunch at the brewery neither of wanted much in the way of dinner so we settled for soup and watching TV for a couple of hours before calling it a day and heading off to bed. We had really taken this "day of rest" stuff to the extreme limits!
For your enjoyment and education (or not) today's advent photo is of a clinometer. It basically shows the angle to which the boat is heeling over as the black ball moves inside the fluid filled tube according to the boat movement. It's a bit hard to see here but there is a scale of how many degrees to each side you are heeled over ranging from 0 in the center to 60 at each outer edge - beyond that it's an oh shit moment! As you can tell it was quite flat and not rocking when I took the photo.
