Leverick Bay & Peter Island
09 May 2017 | Peter Island
rainy but warm
We left the beautiful Eustatia Sound anchorage on Friday and grabbed a mooring at Bitter End - Pizza night! In 20 knot winds, Saturday morning we motored to Leverick Bay to anchor. We thought we could tuck in out of the 1-2' fetch but the angle was such that there wasn't any place to tuck into. So, we back tracked and tucked up in Biras Creek for the night. Early Sunday, we went back to Leverick, grabbed a mooring, and went ashore for laundry day!
While it took us several hours to get our three loads of laundry done since the machines were in use when we arrived, the upside was that we had a really nice time talking with two other cruising couples who we hope to see again next season. With new provisions and clean laundry, we put up the sails and headed for Peter Island - wonderful sail!
The last few days, we noticed the water pump cycling when neither one of us was using the water. We did a cursory inspection and found nothing. Today, Tuesday, we found a small amount (1/3 cup) of fresh water in our bilge so we pulled up the boards and eventually located a small leak at the manifold. After taking it apart, cleaning it, putting it back together, then crossing our fingers, it still leaks -keith's ordering the new part. Since we only have a couple weeks until the boat is on the hard, we'll replace it in the fall.
Its rained most of today so the boat is quite clean. We are hoping this system passes quickly since we are hearing lots of thunder. We'll head for Norman Island tomorrow.
