Rarotonga
We arrived at Avatiu harbor around 1130 on Friday morning. There is only one other transient sailboat in the harbor so we backed right in next to them and saved a space for Charisma who was due in later that day. This is med tie mooring with a concrete warf that you set and anchor and backup to the warf. Tie off to bollards and pull the anchor chain in fairly tight. Within the next 3 hours two more boats show up not counting Charisma.
We had heard from several of the cruisers that this harbor was being worked on and expecially dredging operations were being conducted. From the scuttlebut, the harbor was closed to all cruisers. Not believing rumors I contacted Andre the harbor master via email and asked him what the deal was. He informed me that the harbor was quite full with vessels and dredging equipment but there is a possibility that he could make room for us. A day or two before we left Aitutaki I emailed him a gain and said we delayed our arrival to Avatiu harbor so some of the vessels would be gone. He was appreciative of our delay and said to give him a call on ch 16 when we arrived. It worked out great and hear we are.
Saturday market in Rarotonga is quit the sight. There is about a 5 acre site that is perminently set up for the market. Lots and lots of fruits and vegetables, small shops and other items. Takes at least an hour just to walk through it. We plan on stocking up next Saturday before we depart for Palmerston on our way to Nuie. Also asking anyone we can if there are things that need to be sent to Palmerston that we could carry for them. Will see how that goes.
Church this morning with the Maori mass and sight seeing this afternoon. Must get a moving so all for now.
I think I finally got the generator running smoothly again. Wow what a PIA.
