16 September 2012 | Still hanging out in Niue
Lisa
Yesterday marked our 1 year cruising anniversary! We said our goodbyes and finally untied the dock lines last year on 15 September. I posted a picture from that morning as we waved goodbye to family and friends. When I look at the picture it still brings back the strong feelings I felt that day - excited and happy to be finally starting our adventure, nervous and sad to be leaving behind our family and friends.

It has been a mixed bag out here this past year - lots of ups and downs. But it is definitely getting better with each day as we have made our way west. The island chains have become more interesting (or maybe it's just us getting better and more relaxed at this cruising thing), and the friendships we have made out here have grown deeper. It is nice to know you have each others back whenever things get a bit dicey. And it's also fun to explore with other couples as we each have a different way of looking at the world - and it's fun to see it through each other's eyes. We feel very lucky to have these strong friendships, as I am not sure some of the other boats are experiencing that same connection with others. It's definitely the friendships we make and island people we meet that is making this adventure special.

Orcinius has taken very good care of us this past year. We can't wait to see where she will take us in the coming year - but we're sure it's going to be great!
