Wrapping Thiings up in Niue

16 September 2012 | Still in Niue
Lisa
We had our "boat buddies" over on Friday night - Bob and Ann (Charisma), Pat and John (The Rose), and Karen and Jim (Sockdollager) for dinner and a slideshow. Pat gave us all a sourdough bread making lesson (at least to baker-John and the girls), then we made naan bread together and enjoyed a terrific curry dinner. Each of us put together a slide show of pics and movies to watch with each other - as we each had taken slightly different paths before arriving in Niue. Pat and John had been up to Suvarrow from Bora Bora, and Karen and Jim had spent and extra few weeks in Aitutaki helping with the restoration and launch of the Vaka (an ancient sailing catamaran) and subsequently bumping into the Prime Ministers of Australia, New Zealand, and Tahiti! (There was a meeting of Pacific Island nations taking place on Aitutaki, and Jim & Karen got to help sail the Vaka as it paraded in front of the Prime Ministers during their meeting on One Foot Island Motu - cool stuff!) It was a great night of sharing pictures and stories (and Karen on the guitar!) - the night sped by way too fast!

Yesterday was a quiet day for all of us. The wind was blowing and threatening rain throughout the day - a good day to catch up on pics, blogs, baking, rest and reading. The wharf was also tied up with a supply ship offloading large crates all day - so no room to put dingies on the wharf even if we did want to go ashore. Bob and John.G ventured out in their dingys to exchange books and thumb drives between each of us with everyones pictures on them - but overall it was a quiet day on all the boats.

We will be departing this afternoon for Tonga - the 240 mile run will put us into Vavau sometime on Tuesday. Charisma and ourselves departing today, The Rose and Sockdollager departing tomorrow as Pat and Jim are each recovering from colds they caught from who knows where.

I added new pictures in a couple of photo albums yesterday. I will try to get some Niue ones posted before we leave today - but the day is already getting away from us with plenty to do before we get underway.
All for now - can't wait to see Tonga!
