Becalmed

Lisa - Clear and Calm
We finally shut down the port engine around 11am this morning after having put 24 hours on each engine since leaving Auckland on Sunday. We had about 6-8 knots of wind from the east so we put up the screecher sail for the first time since it had been modified back in Whangarei. It looked great and gave us a 3-4 knot push for about 3 hours. Now it’s 2 in the afternoon and the wind is a steady 2.3 knots – not enough to keep anything full. So we’ve taken down all sail, turned off the auto pilot, and centered the wheel – we are becalmed (and I am loving it!). It is so peaceful and warm and sunny. We are also keeping a close eye on the weather. As of today, it looks like some heavier winds are going to build from Minerva Reef, crossing just south of Fiji (the grib file is showing lots of bright green and yellow, 25-35 knots), starting on Saturday and lasting through Sunday. And so we have decided to slow it down and not be in a hurry, take our time getting north and let it pass. So we might have some cruiser buddies catching up with us if they are leaving this week! We’ll be watching for you! And so tonight is going to be MOVIE NIGHT! After dinner we’re going to pop some popcorn and watch a movie tonight in the salon – and just chill – at least through tomorrow. Then we will slowly be on our way again – maybe to Minerva – maybe not. Just going with the flow for now and looking for a smooth and safe passage. All for now!
