Day seven

John
Well we are about 190 miles from Minerva South. Planning on keeping our journey slow to arrive early Monday morning for some good light to spot the coral heads as we enter.
Today was a less than comfortable day on the sea. Not that it was really bad but just what we call confused seas. When you get the wind from the SSE after several days of wind and seas from the SSW, some of the seas forget to follow the wind around to the SSE and then you have swell and wind-swept seas form both directions. On top of that the wind decides to build to 20+ knots and now you have confused main seas with a wind component that really wants to make you feel like you are in an upright washer in the agitate mode. We did endure for the whole day and will likely have one more day of it.
Not wanting to get to Minerva too early we shortened sail even further tonight so that the jib is only at 30% with the wind at around 16knots we are still pushing along at 4.5 knots. At this rate arrival should be early on Monday which is when the seas and wind should subside a bit, at least according to the GRIB. GRIB, we are not complainingÂ.... you have been true to your predictions so far so keep up the good work.
The real pleasant things today included several short naps by each crew and then after the Pacific SeafarersÂ' Net we had a chat with Salt Breaker who is a little over 17 miles to our NE on the other side of the dateline. So think about this, even though he is ahead and closer to our midway destination he is really now a day behind.
For dinner, Lisa made a very spicy marinade for the rest of the Mahi Mahi and on top of that she had some left over cookie dough from last night to be baked for our dessert. I layered the fish and the marinade in a casserole dish for in the oven, cooked up some rice and sautéed some green beans in a butter sauce. Dinner was great. While Lisa and I did the dishes, she popped the cookies in the oven and after the dishes were done we all had our allotment of two cookies each. So now it is shift watch time.
All is good so off I go to my early watch and send this blog.
All for now.
Cheers
John.
