Viani Bay Here We Come

26 May 2014 | 16 46.62'S:179 20.22'E, Copra Shed Marina - Savusavu Fiji
John
Ok so we go through a gyration to get out of dodge (Savusavu). We rented a vehicle to tour the north east part of the Island around Labasa yesterday, the major community on the island. We had to check it back in and fill the tank this morning. Got that all done by 0830. I went back to the boat around 0845 and we finally left the boat heading for Copra Shed to check out and pay the bill via dinghy.

We needed fuel so we arrange to have fuel delivered from one of the local service stations to the local provision dock owned by Copra Shed.. Price $2.38FJ per liter. Price not the worst but waiting for the dock to clear of another sailboat. Took close to an hour before we were able to back into place and call the service station for the fuel. It is now 12:30 in the afternoon.

The guys show up with 100 liters and we fill the Port tank and they go back for another 100 liters but when they return they have 150 liters. I had ordered 250 so here it was the total of 250 liters. When they returned with the second batch of fuel we start finishing up on the Port side... it only took 10 more liters. So moved onto the starboard side and ended up putting the same amount in that tank. 110 Liters in each tank. That means we are actually burning less fuel than when we headed to NZ a year and a half ago. As we all remember, I had both of the engines gone through and so I suppose they are more efficient now than before.

So after fueling we headed West out of the bay towards Cousteau resort for an anchorage and more important dumping the holding tanks of four days. Feeling lighter we head outside for trolling for some tuna or dorado. After taking care of business we head back in and put the anchor down out in a shallow spot east of the Cousteau resort. We are content, take a dip in the pool, rinse off and shower with fresh water and then make a great Mexican taco night.

Early in the morning we are heading for Viani Bay with the hopes of arriving shortly after noon.

All for now so have a good one. Beddy by time with a night cap.

Love and Kisses.
