I had to add this picture because the villagers hardly ever see the chief smile like this. The story behind it is in the Kava bowl. So in Kava drinking they have a low, mid, high and sunami tide fill of the cup. The first round we each (palungi - white man) get a mid tide fill. Lisa, sitting next to the chief, takes several sips to get it to be gone. The chief turns and looks at her and sayes something in Fijian without a smile and of course Tau and Joe translate it to 'just down it'. The next round comes by and I get a mid and Lisa gets a low. She claps once and then takes the bowl, again sipping to get it down. This time the chief is telling her in Fijian to down it and then turns away with a smirk on his lips. Third round, Lisa gets a half low tide, tips it up and puts it away to which the chief gets a great big smile and claps three times in approval.
