Return to Paradise

25 September 2014 | Paradise Resort, then Savusavu
Lisa / Wx: overcast and windy
Yesterday we made the 70 mile run from Vanua Balavu to Paradise Resort on the south end of Taveuni Island – got the hook down just before sunset, and of course, happy hour! It was a long day, with the alarm going off around 5:30am. We had good wind all day, but right smack on our tail, so we were on the edge of a wing-on-wing all day – not our most efficient point of sail. But at least we had good wind, which we needed as we are were getting extremely low on fuel.

So we were back in one of our favorite spots for the night – having spent some time here back in June when Walt was with us. Everyone is so friendly, and the atmosphere very relaxed and welcoming to yachties. We also met up with Mark again – he’s an underwater videographer that we had met back in June, and is spending the season at Paradise running the dive shop.

We had dinner at the resort (our first evening meal off of Orcinius in quite some time – no dishes to do!). And we sat with a really nice couple, Tania and Eric, from Slovenia. They were so interesting to talk to – and have traveled extensively, everywhere! So now Slovenia is on my bucket list of places we hope to one day travel to. Hopefully our paths will cross again someday.

And as for today, Thursday, we are back in Savusavu safe and soundly tied up to a mooring buoy. Ann and Bob arrived here yesterday. We haven’t seen them in over a week, so lots of catching up to do tonight over cocktails and dinner in town. They seem to be especially interested in our runaway dingy story!

We are back in internet territory again, so lots of catching up to do on email, and blog pictures. We will be here until at least Monday – then look for a weather window to make our way NE to the remote isles of the Ringolds for a few weeks. All for now,

Lisa
