Back in the Yasawas

06 October 2014 | Vetua Yasawa
John - Blustery
From Naqeleluvu we planned to make our way across a couple atols and scope out their worthyness of an anchor. Neither looked very comfortable so we called Bob and Ann and told them we were going to press on to the northern most island of the Yasawas. It would be a 200 mile jaunt and of course an overnighter for us and possibly a double for them. We told them we would get in and on the lee side of the island and make for a good track should they come in late. We managed to talk to them on the HF that evening and the next day around noon we were anchored in a large bay. The wind had picked up some in the morning and we had a blustery and bumpy ride but surely not as much as Charisma would have. That afternoon we spoke to Bob at the pre designated time and frequency and gave him our weight points to the anchorage. Assuring him there was nothing to get in their way we signed off and planned a further radio check just ahead of the 1700 net. AT that check in they had finally put some peddle to the metal and now planned to be at anchor around 2330 that night.

Sure enough just outside at about 2300 we get a DSC call on the VHF from Charisma. They are about 3 miles from our outer weighpoint and heading in fast. I got up and turned on the strobe and talked with them on the radio. They had our postion. Lisa was watching them on the radar and having them stay right on our track. When they were within shouting distance we told them to pull right up on our stern and drop their hook. It was 2330 when their anchor was set and their bridle attached. We said good night while they relaxed with bottle of wine to wind down.

We all chilled yesterday with plans to move today the 7th down to the Blue Lagoon. They have a nice resort where we could have dinner and drinks. The next couple of days it is supposed to be a little blustery. Winds to 25 knots but with us sitting on the lee of the land we won't have any fetch to bother us.

All for now

John
