Departing Western Samoa

14 July 2015 | 13 24.0'S:171 34.0'W, Apia Western Samoa
John
Our intent was to depart Apia yesterday but we had a change of heart and a little compassion for all aboard Orcinius. The winds did not subside as the GRIB files indicated so we stayed the night and took our leisure departing this morning.

We all went out to dinner at the local Chinese resturaunt and then walked over to a local play house which features a Diva Show. The three Divas put on a pretty good show. Wasn't too riske' and no foullanguage. They basically dressed up in some pretty flashy dresses and mouthed and gestured the songs being played on a recorder. They came in three different sizes, Tall and relatively thin, Short and a mid sized vertical shape and big and robust. The big and robust one did the best job. Had alot of movement and you definately wanted to stary out of heris way.

I was quite surprized but Moses and Malo got quite a laugh out of it.

For all that are interested, the watermaker works great. Started it up, increased the pressure to 800psi and pushed the water overboard for the first half hour to get rid of all the preserving solution. After the half hour I took a sample of the water and it showed 210 parts per million of particulate. Better than the water you get at home. SWitched it over to the tank and the guage showed 2.4-2.5 Liters per minute which is about 38 gallons per hour. It might really be better than that as I figured our water tanks were near empty and in about 3 hours the water was running out of the overflow.

When we run it tomorrow I plan on sampling the water after 1, 2, and 3 minutes to see how long I have to dump it overboard before switching it to the tank. I have an automatic water sampler that will switch from dumping it overboard to filling the tank but did not install it yet as I think it best to start out with the KISS method first.

Ok all for now. With any luck we will be in Christmas Island by end of next week and Honolulu less than 10 days after that.
