Getting Closer

Trying to work through problems at sea can be challenging. Not only is there no parts store a mere 100 miles from your problem but it is often quite different in time to work with a supplier.

Fortumately we have a friend with a Lagoon 440 who sailed up to Hawaii from Fiji a couple months ago. He is willing to take delivery of our needed parts and then put them on a Fiji Airways to Christmas Island where we should be by this weekend. Trouble is next flight out to Christmas from HI isn't until next Tuesday HI time to arrive Wednesday Christmas time which is realy the same daylight day.... Go figure.

We are 5 hours behind my Volvo Penta dealer in Portland so by the time they got my request half of their day was gone and of course their suppliers are probably on the East Coast which means they would have had to place an order the minute they got my email. There are always questions. Theirs to me was, "Oh the part number you gave us was for a A model and you told me you have a C model, here are two pictures which one is it?. Got right back within and hour but by then their supplier was already closed for the day.

It might be best because this way maybe they can have their supplier ship directly to Hawaii and save a couple days for the in-between.

Beyond that, I got up this morning for my shift about 30 minutes late at 1530Z, sent out yesterdays blog and began making english muffins. My recipe turned out pretty good but I think I patted them out a little much, i.e I didn't use a tape measure for the 3-3.5 inches round and they ended up closer to 4.25.... a little flat but tasty and will know better next time. I did learn one trick, I used baking sheets to put the patted out muffins on and had them all ready to go on the stove. Used a little spray then semolina flour to dust the sheet before putting the muffins on them. The way I approached it before was to separate and have all 16 balls of dough sitting on a board and pat them one at a time while frying them on a roti pan. The old way was a real pain and didn't seem worth my time.

We are cooking along today, 6.9-7.2 SOG. The wind has come up to 10-12 from the SE and a little too far forward for our desire but with a double reefed main and full genoa we cracked off 20 degrees and still reduced our TTG to destination by 12 hours.

Lisa made up some chocolate chip cookie dough and put it in the freezer, saving it for the Equator crossing. Tonights dinner is left over corned beef made up as a hash with potatoes, green beans and cabbage. With fresh bread to go along with it should make everyone happy.

Took a day off from working on the engine other than chasing the parts.

All for now.
