After an overnight passage from The Big Island to Maui, we put down the anchor just outside the Maalaea Harbor in about 23 feet of water. The Maui Channel in between the two island is notorious for funneling the wind and steep choppy seas, but we lucked out and had a very uneventful crossing - the most wind we saw was about 23 knots and a bit of chop, but only for a few hours.
Orcinius arriving at Maalaea Bay on Maui.
We threw down the hook around 10am, had a bit of lunch and took a nap before taking the dingy into the aquarium. John and I had been here last year and really enjoyed it, so wanted to share it with the guys. I think they really appreciated being able to take in the sites at a relaxing pace and not having to hold your breath while doing it. Many of the fish they had already seen in Fiji, but they got to know a bit more about the ones they were familiar with and while at the same time seeing some new and interesting stuff.
The biggest draw for all of us was the shark tank. It's a huge tank that contains a number of different sharks - including a Tiger shark, which is really rare to have in captivity, as well as travelies, hammerheads, etc. It was also very cool to see the stingrays up close and personal and learn a bit more about them.
Time for dinner in the shark tank.
Let the feeding frenzy begin.
Taking in the big windows of the shark tank.
A stingray zooming over the top of Moses's head.
More stingrays as we pass through the underwater tunnel.
After a full afternoon at the aquarium it was back to Orcinius for dinner, more napping, then off for an overnighter to Oahu and to see Charisma Bob and Ann!!!
