Vic Maui 2012 Race
25 July 2012
Not sure how many follow this race, but for Darren & myself as well as friends Tracy & John, we decided to have breakfast on our respective boats while watching the boats leave the start line.
It was exciting getting captivated by the boats and their displays of sails circling the start line here in Victoria. We didn't know any of the entrants, but our friends did so they were especially thrilled to witness the start.
The boats got started in a light westerly, but had a favourable current for a few hours to get through Race Passage and into the Strait of Juan de Fuca. We followed with our sails up, riding on the excitement of the entrants on our way to Becher Bay for the weekend. It was awesome!
"Double Take" a J-145 won First place in the race, arriving in Hawaii, 10 days, 12 hrs and 34 minutes later!
We were especially thrilled as the advertised photo of the start line has our boat Orion included in the background :)
