The most perfect Day & Arrival in Marathon

30 November 2009
I'm a little late in posting this but wanted to do a quick update. We had the most perfect sail along the Hawk Channel to Boot Key Harbor. We started at first light again (I'm looking forward to a lie-in!) and left the anchorage to be greeted by steady SE winds - perfect! We hoisted all sail and were soon sailing along at 7 knots with wonderful beam winds. The sun was shining, the wind was warm and the sea a most amazing blue - Ahhhh wonderful. It took us about 8 hours to get to Boot Key harbor and on arrival were greeted warmly by the City Marina staff. We were assigned to mooring C9 - a very convenient spot so we are happy. We have paid up for a month and will actually be here for two months before looking for a weather window to cross to the Exumas.

Nav notes: Many crab pots in the Hawk Channel, especially west of Rodriguez along the middle keys. We would never attempt to sail this at night.

Cruiser notes: Boot Key Harbor - as friendly as ever. ( $275 a month for a mooring includes weekly pump out). The new bath house is a major improvement. Also a new laundry room and the cruiser's lounge has been smartened up. A great place to hang out. Everything a cruiser needs is right here - Publix, Home Depot, West Marine, rigging services, diesel mechanic etc. etc.
