A Day at the Races

27 February 2010 | Today's loser is tomorrow's dinner!
March 1st is National Pig Day! So this weekend is a weekend for celebration at the Stuffed Pig Restaurant. We love this restaurant at the best of times. They do the best breakfast in town. Tom and I love the "Pig Waffler" which involves bacon, sausage and eggs and the best waffle we have ever tasted. It is actually better known as the Pig Waddler because that is all you can do after eating it - Waddle home! But I digress. To celebrate National Pig Day the Stuffed Pig holds a weekend long event, the highlight of which is pig racing. Oh boy - what fun! We signed up for two races, three heats each. Heavy gambling was involved and each of us won a race! Tom bet on Brittany Spear-Ribs and I won with Hamma Montana! The pigs were great and genuinely seemed to enjoy the whole race. They get trained to race to win a sweet cookie. The young pigs in race one really ran around the track to get to the cookie as fast as possible. The next heat with slightly larger pigs was at a more leisurely pace and the final heat featuring Pot Bellied Pigs weighing in at 200+ lbs was positively sedate! There was a large, enthusiastic crowd and as the event was a fund raiser for a local daycare center we were happy to gamble away a few dollars.
