Another Front passes by
28 February 2010
One advantage of being stuck here by the weather is that it has really provided the impetus for us to read our weather books and understand the weather a little better. We have always had several weather books aboard but it is somewhat difficult reading, at least for me. Every time I get to the part about Carolis effect my eyes glaze over and I find myself taking a nap! But I have been more persistent in my reading and we have a new book by Steve Dashew which is very readable. So I now consider myself better able to understand what is going on each time a Low, with it's associated fronts, comes through. Unfortunately, understanding the weather a little better doesn't mean we can change it. A low went by yesterday accompanied by it's preceding warm front and followed by the cold front (the picture shows the cloud changes signifying the passage of the cold front). Today we have a cold air mass building in with strong, gusty, North winds. Then we have yet another Low Pressure system on its way for Tuesday with all the weather changes that brings. This means that probably another week will pass by with no opportunity to cross to the Bahamas. More and more people are abandoning their plans to go over this year and even here on Osprey we have contemplated the fact that we may not get there this time. But in the grand scheme of things we still consider ourselves lucky to be able to do what we are doing. We are quite happy here and there is plenty to do. We are taking the bus down to Key West tomorrow and are looking forward to that. We are going to a Bluegrass concert and BBQ tonight which I'm sure will be fun.
