Staged for Maine

08 July 2010 | Provincetown, MA
Sadly, the party at Tashmoo broke up on Tuesday with the departure of Curt and Natalie. We spent the rest of the day getting Osprey ready for sea again. We were up at 4.30am on Wednesday to catch the high tide to get out of Tashmoo and slack current at Woods Hole. We made it through Woods Hole right at slack, which is the only way to do it in my book. Once we were through we realised we would be able to catch a favorable current through the Cape Cod Canal. We anchored off Wing's Neck in Buzzard's Bay for a few hours to wait for the current to switch and then proceeded through the canal without a hitch. Then it was just a matter of a short motor-sail across Cape Cod Bay to P'Town.

We arrived here about 5.30pm just in time for a quick shower and sundowners before dinner. We found ourselves on a mooring in the outer harbor being waked by vessels large and small. To crown it all the power boat next to us started up a generator on his foredeck (positioned away from his cockpit but next to ours!!!!!). Then he topped it off by spending half an hour puking overboard - Yuk!

Despite this, we had a pleasant evening tho' we pined for our friends and Lake Tashmoo. This morning we are making preps for an overnight sail up to Casco Bay, ME. We will leave about 2.00pm and the forecast looks good for a downwnd sail. Of course there is much mention of the dreaded "fog" but there is nothing we can do about that. We will just have to get used to navigating in fog again if we are going to enjoy sailing in Maine.
