We arrived back on Osprey yesterday afternoon after an uneventful drive from Maine. We were happy to be back aboard and pleased to find Osprey as we left her. Although we enjoyed the luxury of a king-sized bed, unlimited hot and cold running water, use of a car etc. etc. we are very glad to be back. I guess this means that we are true cruisers. This morning we were up fairly early to catch the ebb current to take us down the river back into Long Island Sound. Once we got out of the river we found a gentle breeze, enough to sail and had a wonderful beam reach across the Sound. We were able to get through Plum Gut just as the current switched so we were lucky with the timing. Then we motored (the wind having died out) across Gardiner's Bay and up to this beautiful anchorage in the lee of Shelter Island. We are the only ones here and it is a quiet and peaceful night. We are having to keep a very close eye on the weather as it looks as though Tropical Storm Hannah will be a hurricane within a day or two and will certainly be impacting our area. Hopefully we will get just rain and not too much wind but we are keeping all options open until things are more certain. Thankfully, there are a number of secure harbors we can choose from when the time is right.
