Tashmoo with the Carpenters
15 September 2008

We said sad farewells to Charisma on Saturday morning. It will be a while before we see them again as they are now turning South and heading back to Florida - we are just a little envious. Having said good bye to them we got ourselves ready for the relatively short trip to Martha's Vineyard. Because we were going to head into Lake Tashmoo, timing was everything as the entrance is shoaled up and we didn't want to take any chances. So we left fairly late and got into Tashmoo with no problems as it was nearly high tide. We would have got stuck if we tried any earlier though. Once inside the lake we tied up to Curt's mooring, went up to their house, got out their car and drove into Vineyard Haven to meet the ferry and pick up Curt and Natalie. Tom and I have known Curt for about 10 years and have been lucky enough to spend many happy weekends in his wonderful home here. We were delighted when Curt met and then married Natalie. We have been firm friends over the years, have had some great sailing and skiing adventures and spent Thanksgivings and New Years together. One of the downsides of our itinerant lifestyle is that it is tough to see our land based, working friends as often as we would like. We were very happy that Curt and Natalie were able to take time-out from their busy schedules and sneak an extra weekend to meet us out here. We had a lovely time catching up with each other. True to form the boys drank many beers late into the night. Sadly Sunday was an awful day weather wise but we did go for a nice walk to the beach once the rain stopped. We even tried to go for a sail but unfortunately got a line caught in the prop (it's a long story!). By the time Curt and Tom had dove over and freed things up it was getting dark so we had to tie back up and console ourselves with more beer and cocktails!
The sun is out today but Curt and Natalie have had to head back to Boston for the work week. We are still at the house doing our laundry and have enjoyed the luxury of having a car to do some grocery shopping. We will head out tomorrow - we shall see where the wind blows us. At this point we are loosely planning to be back in East Greenwich by next weekend.
