Good bye to an old friend

20 October 2008
The big news this week is that the Perkins engine is out! Tom took photos of the process which apparently went quite smoothly thanks to the expertise of Scott, our mechanic and the great guys at Norton's. I am surprised at how big the engine is! Well, now it is out and I hope we find a new one to fit in it's place because our trusty Perkins was loaded straight in to the back of a pick-up truck belonging to Bill, from North Carolina. Having taken the engine out, Tom has been cleaning out the 29 years worth of grime and grease from the engine compartment and getting it ready to be painted. The next step is to confer with Scott and decide on which new engine we will buy to replace the old one. We will be limited in our choice by the size available. Now the old engine is out, Tom and Scott will be able to more easily make the measurements needed to make a final choice. However, we are fairly certain we will wait until the spring to order and fit the new engine as it would just be sitting in a very cold Osprey all winter.
