Weekend off

20 October 2008
After 10 days on call I was more than ready for a weekend off. And it was wonderful to have Tom come up and visit. We got a great deal on a weekend car rental, so Tom drove up here on Friday, arriving in time for a cup of tea in the afternoon. The weather was wonderful though a little chilly and the foliage was amazing. We had a nice time pottering around the local area discovering what the various towns had to offer. I am pleased to report that there will be few opportunities to squander our hard earned dollars this winter.... unless we are looking for tractor supplies or hunting gear that is! But that is OK as the whole idea of this interlude is to fill the cruising kitty for our next adventure. This is the first weekend in I don't know how long that we have not had any timetables or agendas to follow, so it was nice to relax, enjoy some good home-cooked meals and watch some new release DVD's - what a treat. We had to keep reminding ourselves not to get too used to all the modern conveniences we have here. Monday morning came all too quickly and I had to wave a sad goodbye to Tom as he drove back to Rhode Island and I went back to work. It was very tempting to have Tom stay a few extra days but we know that the sooner he gets everything wrapped up down there then the sooner he can come back and join me up here.
