Ready for Launch!

03 June 2009
After working 10 hours a day for the last 10 days we are ready for launch. The boot-stripe is done and looking good we think. We have spent the last two days cleaning, waxing and buffing the topsides with great results - she does not look like a 30 year old boat! I have spent hours perched up a rickety ladder tied to the stern of the boat, varnishing and repainting the sign boards. Little did we realise when we securely bolted these boards in place, way back when, that it would have made more sense to simply screw them into the fiberglass so they could be taken off for repainting. Now we would have to dismantle the sealed propane locker (which was not a propane locker at the time) to get to the bolts - Oh well, hindsight is a wonderful thing. We are scheduled for launch on Friday - the only thing between us and that happening is replacement of the prop shaft having had to have the cutlass bearing replaced (courtesy of the line we caught last fall). We are also waiting on a new through hull, replacing one that had completely seized up and could not be opened or closed. Even though these jobs were started weeks ago, it has come down to the wire to get them finished - it's always the way when you are relying on someone else to do the job.

The good news is that the new engine has arrived! We have been to see it, safely tucked up in Scott's workshop. Once we are launched and Osprey has had time to settle her shape the engine will go in. I am trying not to have nightmares along the lines of "what if it doesn't fit?"!!! That will be a project completely under Tom's pervue
