Arrecife island (Reef island)
When we had arrived at Bessie Island we spotted another yacht anchored at the neighbouring island of Arrecife which we believed had a resort on it and was not yachtie friendly. Jamie jumped in the polycraft and did a quick run across to have a look see. To our surprise it was the Seventh Heaven and the resort has been closed for 10 years and yes we were welcome, so a short 2 mile hop and we were in a new anchorage and also had someone else to have a sundowner with. In all we spent 6 nights here one of the better anchorages we have had, great little island to walk around, great reef walks at low tide, the snorkelling and reef are some of the best we have seen between Malaysia and Philippines, there are strong signs of new grown everywhere, we are not sure why but there seems to be a reduction in dynamiting in this area. Again it was a hard decision to leave we kept finding excuses to stay. While here we got to give all our dive gear and the compressor a big service and test run in preparation for our planned dive trip to Tubbataha reef. Dawn got to polish all the stainless and the BBQ got a bit of a scrub. It is really quite sad to see a once lovely resort going to ruin, amasing amount of infrastructure and investment going to waste, we met the caretaker Melbin who was very friendly and informative. There were also some of the coconut workers harvesting the trees, we had the local fisherman stroll by regularly and the sardine boats working around the area most days.
