Adventures aboard S/V Sonsie of Victoria

Waterfall Bay - eh?

13 February 2019 | Waterfall Bay, NZ
We let go the mooring and motor out into the larger Port Ligar bay to dispose of the holding tank's contents in a responsible manner, far from any shore or mussel farm.

End up on a mooring ball in Homestead Bay.

We go in our dinghy with our now happy-to-start outboard engine to check out the neighbouring cove, Waterfall Bay, which is renowned for being one of the safest, most protected anchorages in Pelorus Sound. Although both calm and pretty, it is marred by the sight of two derelict sailboats at anchor in the most ideal spot. And disappointingly there is not one waterfall anywhere.

At the head of the bay there's one house, and as the two hilly sides are close together here, an almost deafening stereo crzzz-crzzz-crzzz of cicadas.

Just before dusk big powerboats arrive and raft up for the night.
