Depart Torrent Bay early, motor then sail in light winds Westwards along the coast of Abel Tasman park to a most gorgeous golden sand crescent of a big, wide bay, Totaranui (Totaranui = Big Totaranui tree)We drop anchor in the SW corner alongside a very picturesque and cool hoodoo-shaped shoreline. Water is a great sculptor and is gorgeously clear here. Very inviting! We swim right away.
Lunch. Row the dinghy to the nearby hoodoo shore to explore. A young kiwi Dad with his singing, birthday-suited 5-year old boy (who is autistic) are also exploring. Jim takes them for a ride in the dinghy. Quick as a wink the wee lad tosses the small folding anchor into the drink. That’s alright as it’s attached to the dinghy. Jim puts his hand on the line to pull it back in but this lad is a determined young’ un and takes Jim’s hand off the line! What a fun game he has with the line and anchor, in and out of the water, over and over again, all the way to the beach while his Daddy rows and Jim laughs.
After supper, Jim and I walk the headland loop walk. Great hike! Get bitten by many mean sand flies as we push the dinghy back in the water to row back to Sonsie!
