July 2019 setting out from Opua, NZ Aotearoa to New Caledonia

Depart 12:35 from Opua fuel dock after checking out from NZ Customs. A small issue arose as a fat catamaran docked in front of us and did not want to move off the dock after refuelling. He has last minute tasks to do like going up the mast, but we want to leave. Sonsie is pinned behind him on account of the current, wind and her prop walk. Jim has to raise his voice to assert our right to go. I can count on one hand the amount of times I’ve seen Jim mad. It’s not very often and it’s unfortunate this fellow needed to be told sternly as it would have been preferable to depart without that agro.
Sail out the Bay of Islands in light winds.
It’s nippy at night on watch - coats and woollies on and a duvet gets dragged out of a berth into the cockpit. But the stars a-sparkle in the dark night sky are magnificent!
