Iliohale has been berthed in San Diego Bay since bringing her down from the SF Bay area in March, 2023. Rina and I doublehanded her between the the barrage of storms that hit California. The good news was the superior boat speed of Iliohale over our prior monohull made all the difference in the world. We averaged 7.5 knots, enabling us to stay ahead of a storm front bearing down on the SF Bay Area.
Once berthed in San Diego, we started plotting for our next adventure and preparing the boat. We came to love the name of the boat, which means dog house in Hawaiian, so set about making her our own and refreshing her look. We re-striped the hulls, removed the white privacy screens from the hull windows and redid the logo. We also added window shades to the main windows to give us much improved thermal management, which will be important in the tropics.
Iliohale's prior owner did a fantastic job maintaining her and preparing for long term cruising and he used to say "the only thing she needs is a life raft, water maker and downwind sail. We'll we've also nailed those items, with a North Sails Gennaker, Revere 6 man life raft and CruiseRO 40gph water maker all installed.
Hmmm, I wonder what were planning for?
