In prior years heading South, we sailed overnight from Barra to Zihuatanejo, but this year we decided to hit small anchorages in between. They are not very popular because they don’t offer very good protection from swells and wind waves, but the allure of no overnight passages was compelling. It was a mixed bag, with one or two anchorages giving a good night’s sleep, but others were rolly… Rina did not get much sleep. Me? I slept like a baby because I trust our anchor lol.
We got to Zihua and signed up for multiple sunset cruise events with the annual Sailfest event, where we hosted up to 20 people each night. Donations go to the local schools. It was quite the adventure, with a wide variety of guests, from 20 French Quebecers singing to 90’s classics, to drunk guys on their first vacation to Mexico. It was an adventure in people management, as we have never had that many people aboard, but all went well.
Zihua is a special place, with great restaurants, fantastic local boating support services, and pretty good mid-winter weather. After three weeks, we headed back to Barra for our final preparations for our South Pacific Crossing.
Here is a
pretty good video of one of the SailFest sunset cruises, with musicians entertaining guests on iliohale and Voyager.
