I'm so excited to be here

25 June 2012 | Mallorca
On Tuesday my mom and I left from the Kalamazoo airport to head to Chicago, London, Madrid and then to Palma on Mallorca. We had little to no problems except that our luggage did not arrive until the next day. The Beckman’s arrived the same day but they spent two days touring in London. On Thursday we experienced a great sail all the way to Ponca. We couldn’t have asked for a better day. Everything was great and very relaxed. We had an okay dinner. Nothing fabulous but then food is food when you are very hungry. Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, we found a great place to go cliff diving. So Nick, Andrew, Alex, Dr. Beckman, my dad and I all took the tender over to an incredible spot. There were three different heights to go from and everyone made it to the second, but only Nick and Alex made it to the highest point. I don’t know about everyone else, but I was scared not so much of jumping but of the height. I counted to three about 50 times before actually going. Dr. Beckman would like me to add that he accomplished a full double twist and landed with no splash =). After that we sailed to Sant Elm. What a beautiful port! The water is like out of a picture. The beach is only a short swim in and everyone enjoyed the swimming and the beach. Andrew, Alex and I all tried to sleep out on the tramp, but none of us made it through the night due to the cold wind. I am sure we will all try it again. The next day we all went to Sa Dragonera for a 3 hour hike to the top. Along with fabulous scenery there was an old lighthouse which dated back to the Talayotic era. The rest of the day everyone was pretty tired so we just relaxed on the beach or the boat. We had an amazing meal that evening in town and everyone enjoyed tasty gelato for dessert! So for the rest of the night we will just calm down and enjoy each other’s company.
And special thanks to my Dad for making this all happen!

Sailing Route

Aldarion was the Heir to the King of Númenor. He was a great captain and adventurer, to the dismay of his father, who wished his son to spend his youth on the island he would one day rule. Aldarion, though, felt the call of the sea, and he built himself a vast ship, larger than any that had been seen at that time. He called it PALARRAN, an Elvish name meaning 'Far-Wanderer', and in it he journeyed the Great Sea to Middle-Earth. JRR Tolkien, The Silmarillion
