Went for a tour round the island with Kevin our very informative taxi driver, the taxi was an old Nissan pickup and was just right for the job. The island is very picturesque and it was well worth seeing especially with a decent narrative by a local. Kevin explained that the island used to grow sugar cane but after slavery was abolished nobody wanted to work the cane fields so coconuts were planted. You can now pick up a coconut nearly anywhere and our taxi driver demonstrated how to open it without a cutlass though I still want one of these essential items( Karen says that she does not have any plasters big enough)
Caught two fish spinning in the anchorage last night and they fought like crazy, taking line at every opportunity. They were boated into the dinghy by my fishing assistant, without incident and stored in the fridge. The next morning I went ashore to prepare the two fish, one was complete mush so this was seagull food the other was firm white flesh and definitely had an appointment with the barbecue that evening, it was delicious and not unlike sea bream in the UK.
